The Election of Syriza, a Wake-Up Call to Europe

Dr. Tsarouhas comparing fiscal policies in Germany, France, Italy and Greece, said German Chancellor Angela Merkel does not want the Grexit (Greece Exit) from the Eurozone.

SETA’s second guest at the “Syriza’s Victory and After: The Future of Greece and Europe” panel was Dimitris Tsarouhas, an Associate Professor in the Department of International Relations at Bilkent University.

Tsarouhas said, “Something has been simmering in Europe for a very long time to my understanding, the election of Syriza is a wake-up call to the European elite, to the European institutions that have sought to follow an economic orthodoxy that does not pay out, that does not satisfy the European citizens…”

Dr. Tsarouhas comparing fiscal policies in Germany, France, Italy and Greece, said German Chancellor Angela Merkel does not want the Grexit (Greece Exit) from the Eurozone.

Tsarouhas puts the blame on the absence of politics for the current mess in the European project, but believes that the election of Syriza has made a very positive contribution and finally has brought politics back into picture.
