Hamdullah Baycar holds a Ph.D. degree from the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies at the University of Exeter and graduated in 2023 with his thesis titled "Nationalism and Tolerance Discourse in the United Arab Emirates: Balancing Exclusive Belonging and Inclusive Non-Belonging." He holds an A.M. in Middle Eastern Studies from Harvard University (2017) and a B.A. in International Relations from Abant Izzet Baysal University (2013). He has been selected by the Middle East Policy Council (MEPC) to be part of its prestigious 40 under 40 cohort for the year 2023. His research focuses on the identity politics of the Gulf. Orientalism, colonialism, and post-colonialism are among the topics that he is interested in. He has travelled to Jordan, Tunisia, China, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia for education and research purposes during his postgraduate studies. His academic work on Emirati nationalism and Gulf foreign policy has appeared on various platforms, including Identities, Religions, and Digest of Middle East Studies. Baycar publishes opinion and analysis pieces through the Carnegie Endowment, the Washington Institute, the Newlines Institute, the Middle East Eye, the Gulf International Forum, and the Arab Gulf States Institute in Washington.
