The Dangers Indicated by Cencorship of Palestine on Social Media
Meta's blocking of posts by users commemorating Ismail Haniyeh, the head of Hamas's political bureau, who was assassinated in Tehran, has once again drawn attention to Palestinian censorship on social media. Among the complaints are Meta's removal of a post by Instagram, owned by Meta, about Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's meeting with Haniyeh, and Facebook's removal and subsequent ban of a livestreamed "funeral prayer in absentia" video by the Presidency of Religious Affairs. In fact, the Western-driven silencing and ignoring of Palestine isn't limited to social media. Authorities are subject to significant pressure in many areas, from academia to politics, from the press to sports. Many pronouncements can easily be met with accusations of anti-Semitism.
