Succeeding the reports of 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018, SETA publishes the European Islamophobia Report” (EIR) 2019, which provides country-specific surveys on the development of Islamophobia in 32 European countries. Widely ignored and misunderstood, Islamophobia undermines the life of millions of Muslim citizens, weakens domestic security and strengthens the rise of xenophobic and racist groups in Europe. Within this framework, SETA will organize a web panel on 20th of June 2020 in order to share the main findings in the EIR 2019 with the public. EIR 2019 will be published online at the end of this web-panel.
This web opening panel will be introduced by Prof. Dr. Burhanettin Duran, SETA General Coordinator. Prof. Dr. Fahrettin Altun, Communications Director of the Republic of Turkey, will also give a keynote speech on anti-Muslim racism.
Then, the discussion will be moderated by Enes Bayraklı, Coordinator of SETA Brussels Office and co-editor of the EIR. Following his remarks, Farid Hafez, researcher at Georgetown University’s The Bridge Initiative and co-editor of the EIR, will provide information on the main findings of EIR 2019. Later on, Amina Easat-Daas from De Montfort University, Amina Smits Akılma from Istanbul 29 Mayıs University and Hikmet Karčić from the Institute for Islamic Tradition of Bosniaks (IITB) will respectively talk about Islamophobia in Belgium, the Netherlands and Bosnia-Herzegovina.
We would be honoured to have you at our event.
