SPEAKER Riyad al-Maliki, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Palestine

On November 29, the United Nations general assembly voted overwhelmingly to recognize Palestine as a non-member observer state, an elevation from its standing as a non-member observer "entity", despite fiery opposition from the United States and Israel. The historic vote was held sixty-five years after the United Nations General Assembly adopted resolution 181, which partitioned the land of historic Palestine into two States, one Jewish and one Arab. The upgrade, among others, allows the Palestinians to participate General Assembly debates and paves the way for Palestinians to join UN agencies and the International Criminal Court, thus enabling them to seek justice at ICC.

Riyad al-Maliki, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Palestine, will discuss the recent vote in the UN, its implications for the Palestinian statehood and the peace process, as well as Turkish-Palestinian cooperation at a panel organized by SETA Foundation for Political, Social and Economic Research. You are cordially invited to attend this timely and informative event.

Dr. Riyad al-Maliki is the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Palestine. He previously served as the Minister of Information and official spokesperson of the government. He received his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering at American University and taught at Birzeit University. He was also the general director and the founder of Panorama Center for the Dissemination of Democracy and Community Development in Palestine.

Note: The event will be held in English.
