Speaker Abdullah al-Ahsan, Department of History and Civilization, International Islamic University Malaysia

Especially after the Arab Spring, the transformation of Islamic movements has become one of the major issues both in academia and decision-making circles. Southeast Asia has a special place in this discussion because terrorism, security and economic development are very much mixed in a way that shapes the domestic and regional politics.

In this general context, Bangladesh has recently captured headlines in international media outlets thanks to its International War Crime Tribunal which has started delivering verdicts on what it calls crimes committed in 1971 when Bangladesh was born out of a bloody war. These verdicts have ranged from death sentence to life imprisonment.

Abdullah al-Ahsan, professor at the Department of History and Civilization, International Islamic University Malaysia will discuss the recent developments in Bangladesh and its regional and global implications.

Note: The event will be held in English.
