Talip Kucukcan is the Editor-in-Chief of Insigth Turkey. He received an MA from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, and a PhD the University of Warwick. He teaches at the Institute for Middle East Studies at Marmara University, Istanbul. Professor Kucukcan works on Middle Eastern affairs, Turkey-EU relations, religion and politics. Professor Kucukcans publications include European Perceptions of Turkish Foreign Policy; Arab Image in Turkey; Politics of Ethnicity, Identity and Religion: Turkish-Muslims in Britain; EuroTurks and Turkey-EU Relations: The Dutch Case; Turks in Europe: Culture, Identity, Integration; State-Religion Relations in Europe.
In fact, the evidence suggests the contrary and that it is the Muslim democrats in the current government who initiated direct talks with the Kurds, the Alevis and the Roma people in Turkey for the first time in the Republic's history.
