Insight Turkey, one of the leading academic journals in Turkey, in its latest issue: “The Balkans at a Crossroads:  Domestic Issues, Regional Affairs, Global Powers, Changing Dynamics” tackles the latest events in the Balkans region and the world powers’ relations within the Balkan countries.

This new issue of Insight Turkey brings to the readers various manuscripts which touch upon domestic and regional issues and the impact of those external actors, (i.e. EU, NATO, Russia, China, and Turkey), inside the Balkans.  Cvete Koneska and Zhidas Daskalovski in their commentaries evaluate the ongoing name dispute between Greece and North Macedonia.  Alexander Zdravkovski and Sabrina Ramet’s commentary discusses the proposed territorial exchange between Serbia and Kosovo; while Muhidin Mulalic talks about the trilateral relations among Turkey, Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Balkans is currently a contested region where the EU and NATO have placed a crucial importance towards integrating Balkan countries into the Western bloc and yet, Turkey, China, Russia, and Saudi Arabia have their own ambitions within the region.  In this issue, Mehmet Uğur Ekinci and Ilya Roubanis talk about Turkey’s Balkans policy, Vsevolod Samokhalov delves into Russia’s role in the region, and Liu Zuokui examines China’s involvement in the region.

Among others in this issue you may also find Isa Blumi’s article about Albania’s relations with the West and Elif Nuroğlu and Hüseyin Nuroğlu’s article about the ‘competition’ between Turkey and Germany in the Balkans.

Furthermore, Emir Suljagic, Oya Dursun-Özkanca, Senada Selo Sabic, İsmail Numan Telci and Aydzhan Yordanova Peneva made great contribution to this issue.

We trust that our readers will find this issue of Insight Turkey informative and constructive!
