SETA Brussels is organising a web-panel entitled “Strained EU-Russian Relations: Business as Usual?” on Wednesday, the 21st of April 2021 at 15.00 o’clock Brussels Time.

Since the illegitimate annexation of Crimea in 2014 and the support of rebels in the Eastern part of Ukraine the relations between Russia and the European Union are strained. Furthermore, Russia’s recent moves in the Middle East and North African Region in particular in Libya and Syria and the disinformation campaign cause displeasure on the European Union side. Thus, the European Union keeps on renewing the imposed sanctions on Russia for almost seven years even if both actors are interdependent when it comes for example to the area of energy.

The panelists include in the alphabetical order Senior Policy Analist Ms. Amanda Paul from the European Policy Center with expertise on issues related to Turkish foreign and domestic policy, Ukraine, security and conflict resolution in the Black Sea region, Russian foreign policy in the former Soviet space and EU foreign policy in its Eastern neighbourhood and the Professor of International Relations Ms.Vişne Korkmaz from Nişantaşı University who inter alia gives lectures at the Republic of Turkey’s National Defence University on current affairs and regional security issues in the Middle East, Russia and Caucasus. During the web-panel the panelists will discuss the current EU-Russian relations with regards to interdependency areas such as energy and security. They will shed light on the geopolitical and geostrategic challenges regarding the relationship between the EU and Russia.

The web-panel will be moderated by the SETA Brussels ASBL Coordinator Mr. Talha Köse and live streamed on different SETA social media accounts. The online event is accessible through the following link: www.setav.org/live.
