After decades of unsuccessful diplomatic efforts and failed negotiations for a  political solution under federal political system, Turkish Cypriots and Turkey came up with a new game plan in the island. Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and Turkey came up with a new negotiation framework under the plan of sovereign equality. Especially, the re-opening intention of Varosha (in Turkish called Maraş) gained a huge international attention causing either euphoria or incomprehension on different sides and let the international community’s interest rose for this topic.

In order to shed light on the current internal developments regarding the Cyprus issue SETA Brussels ASBL is organising a web-panel entitled „A New Era in Cyprus Diplomacy? Scenarios for Future“ on Thursday, 12th of August 2021, Thursday at 15 o’clock Brussels Time (16.00 IST).

Under the moderation of SETA Brussels’ Coordinator Mr. Talha Köse the panelists will discuss the current situation related to Cyprus and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. The panelists include in the alphabetical order Mr. Ahmet Sözen from the Eastern Mediterranean University, Mr. Kıvanç Ulusoy from Istanbul University and Mr. Mehmet Uğur Ekinci from SETA.

The web-panel will be live-streamed on SETA’s social media accounts and is accessible through this following www.setav.org/live.
