The 9th of May marks an important day in the history of the European Union. Each year it is celebrated as the Europe Day. On that day in 1950 the French Foreign Minister Robert Schumann, one of the founding fathers and important drivers for European integration hold his famous speech called the “Schuman Declaration” in Paris to enhance the cooperation between European neighbors and to avoid war. In conjunction with this day SETA Brussels ASBL is organizing a web-panel entitled “70 Years of EU-Integration – EU Enlargement Policy towards Turkey” on Monday, 10th of May 2021 at 15.00 o’clock Brussels Time.

The panelists include in the alphabetical order Ms. Ellen Wasylina; founding partner, Trocadéro Forum: A Center for Sustainable Diplomacy in Paris, France, Mr. Emre Gönen from Bilgi University and Professor Dr. Ms. Özgür Ünal-Eriş from 29 Mayıs University who also holds the title of Jean Monnet Chair in European Integration since October 2020.

During the web-panel the panelists will discuss the topic of the European Integration and will concentrate on the enlargement policy towards Turkey by stressing the questions like what concrete steps should be taken between Turkey and the EU, the expectations between each other and the differences. Furthermore, the panelists will discuss the possible scenarios and possible obstacles when its comes to European Integration and the enlargement policy towards Turkey.

The web-panel will be opened by the keynote speech of Ambassador, HE Mr. Mehmet Kemal Bozay, Permanent Delegate of Turkey to the EU. SETA Brussels ASBL Coordinator Mr. Talha Köse will moderate the panel which will be live-streamed on SETA social media accounts.
