A quartet summit on Syria was held on October 27 in Istanbul with the participation of the leaders of France, Germany, Russia and Turkey. The quartet summit aimed at laying down the groundwork for an eventual solution to the Syrian crisis that has been going on for seven years. The Summit stood out by not involving the US and Iran; the fact that it was initiated and hosted by Turkey; and convening significant actors of both Geneva and Astana processes.
