The German Federal (Bundestag) elections, which is due to take place in shade of the rise of the far-right has become significant for both European and Turkish politics. Achievements of the far right parties in European countries such as the Netherlands and France in 2017, resulted in increasing the significance of the September 24 German Federal elections.  The fact that the mainstream political parties became increasingly influenced by the far-right discourse, which resulted in an unprecedented anti-Turkey political atmosphere, increased the relevance of the German elections for Turkey. Consequently, the bilateral relations between Turkey and Germany strained in an unprecedented manner. Within this framework, SETA’s European Research Directorate has organized a panel that will discuss the German Federal elections. How has the rise of the far-right affected the election process?  What are the potential scenarios for German politics after the elections? What kind of political atmosphere is waiting for Turkey-Germany relations? What will be the political stance of Turkish-origin German citizens in the elections? Answers of these and many other questions will be discussed during this panel.

SETA European Research Director, Enes Bayraklı will be the moderator of the panel and speakers are Ozan Ceyhun, former MEP, Bülent Bilgi, Secretary General of the UETD, and Zafer Meşe, Coordinator of SETA Berlin.

We would be honored to see you at the event.

Notice: Panel language will be in Turkish but English translation will be performed simultaneously.
