On the night of July 15, 2016 a junta controlled by the Fetullah Gülen Terrorist Organization (FETÖ) that is embedded in the Turkish Armed Forces attempted to stage a coup against the Turkish government. The coup attempt, which occurred despite the many recent steps in the democratization of Turkey, was thwarted with the strong reaction of the Turkish society, media and government. Although many people lost their lives and the Turkish society was deeply traumatized during the coup attempt, the Western politicians and media organs focused on the operations on the junta carried out by the Turkish government rather than the background of the 15 July Coup Attempt.

On 26 October, 2016 SETA European Studies Directorate in cooperation with British Institute of Turkish Affairs (BITAF) will organize a panel on the issue of “15 July Coup Attempt in Turkey and Its Repercussion on Foreign Policy” in London, UK. What is FETÖ? What was the aim of FETÖ on 15 July Coup Attempt? What happened after the coup attempt? What were the repercussion of the coup attempt on foreign policy? The answer of these and such questions will be discussed in this panel.

The panellists of the program, whose key speaker will be the AK Party’s Deputy Chairman Mehdi Eker, will include Enes Bayraklı from SETA, İsmet Berkan from Hürriyet Newspaper and Ed Husain from Council on Foreign Relations. The moderator of the panel will be the Secretariat General of BITAF Murad Gassanly.

We would be honoured to have you at our event.
