Since 2002, relations between Turkey and the European Union have been undulating. Relations that saw improvement between 2002 and 2005 reached a breaking-point in 2013 following the EU’s support to events in Turkey such as the Gezi Park riots and the December 17-25 judicial coup attempt conducted by the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO). Developments that occurred after 2015 further deepened the complexity in relations. In spite of the July 15 military coup attempt orchestrated by FETO, the EU’s continuous support for the terrorist organization has formed a deadlock in relations between Ankara and Brussels. In addition, Germany’s increasing power within the EU and attempts to influence other member states to act within an anti-Turkey framework has also remained a major issue in bilateral relations. Within this context, the question of the future of Turkey-EU relations has emerged.

The answer to this question will be debated under the moderation of SETA European Studies Director Enes Bayrakli and with the attendance of SETA Istanbul General Coordinator Professor Fahrettin Altun, Professor Beril Dedeoglu (Galatasaray University), Professor Aylin Unver Noi (Istinye University) and Journalist Belkis Kilickaya.
