The Director of European Studies at SETA Foundation, Enes Bayraklı, commented at TRT World regarding the crises that Europe is facing lately and the yellow vest protest in France which are directly related to these crises. Bayraklı stated that Europe is facing three main crises, namely identity crisis, economic crisis, and political crisis. More specifically, the global economic crisis, which started in 2008 and latest continued within the eurozone in 2012 had a direct impact on France. This was visible especially in industry and as a result, France could not create enough jobs. Furthermore, Bayraklı argued that Europe is receiving refugees and migrants and as a result its population is changing. At this point, societies are afraid of this change and politicians cannot manage these fears. Bayraklı concluded by stating that this situation has turned into an identity crisis and a political crisis for Europe in general.
